How to Accept PayPal Payments on BreezeDoc Invoices
To accept PayPal, save your PayPal email under Settings → Payments, then turn on PayPal on the invoice. It works on every plan, and paid invoices update themselves.
Prerequisites
- Plan: any plan - Free, Individual, or Agency
- PayPal: a PayPal account and the email address it uses
- Invoice: an invoice in BreezeDoc (see How to Create and Send an Invoice in BreezeDoc)
How Does PayPal Work With BreezeDoc Invoices?
- You save one PayPal email address in BreezeDoc.
- On each invoice, you choose whether PayPal is offered.
- Your client opens the invoice with View invoice in the invoice email and pays with PayPal's buttons on the invoice page. PayPal's buttons can include a debit or credit card option.
- When PayPal confirms the payment, BreezeDoc records it on the invoice automatically, and the invoice shows Paid.
How Do I Set Up PayPal?
- Open Settings → Payments.
- Under PayPal ("Enter your PayPal email to accept PayPal payments on invoices."), type the email address of your PayPal account.
- Click Save. You see "Paypal email updated!".

To use a different PayPal account later, replace the email and click Save again. Payments always go to the email saved at the moment your client pays - also for invoices you sent before the change.
How Do I Offer PayPal on an Invoice?
- Open Invoices and click Create new Invoice (or edit an invoice).
- Under Online payment methods, turn on PayPal. It shows Connected once your PayPal email is saved; otherwise use Connect account.
- Finish the invoice and send it.
You can offer Stripe on the same invoice: your client then sees Pay by card "or" the PayPal buttons.
What Does My Client See?
- The PayPal buttons appear on the invoice page while the invoice has an amount left to pay. They disappear once it is paid.
- The client pays the remaining balance, in the invoice's currency.
- PayPal handles the payment itself; BreezeDoc does not add a fee.
Payments your client makes outside the invoice page (for example a PayPal transfer you requested separately) can be added with Record payment - see Invoice Payments: Online, Recorded, and Tracking Activity.
PayPal or Stripe?
| PayPal | Stripe | |
|---|---|---|
| BreezeDoc plan | Any plan | Individual or Agency |
| Setup in Settings → Payments | Enter your PayPal email | Connect with Stripe |
| What the client clicks | PayPal's buttons | Pay by card |
Stripe is covered in How to Accept Card Payments on Invoices with Stripe.
Troubleshooting
My client does not see the PayPal buttons
- Check that PayPal is turned on under Online payment methods on that invoice.
- Check that your PayPal email is saved under Settings → Payments.
- The buttons are hidden once the invoice is fully paid.
Payments went to the wrong PayPal account
- Correct the email under Settings → Payments and click Save. New payments - also on invoices you already sent - go to the new email.
The client paid, but the invoice is not marked paid
- BreezeDoc records a PayPal payment when PayPal confirms it as completed. If the client paid outside the invoice page, add it with Record payment.
