Create Your First Document: Upload a File or Use a Template

Create a document by uploading a file under Add new document on the Documents page, or with Use template on Templates. Then add parties and fields - on every plan.

Prerequisites

  • Account: a BreezeDoc account (see Getting Started with BreezeDoc)
  • Plan: any plan - Free, Individual, or Agency. Creating documents is not limited; your plan counts the documents you send each month (Free 10, Individual 20, Agency unlimited).
  • File: a PDF, Word, Excel, JPG, or PNG file up to 5 MB - or a template

How Do I Upload a File?

BreezeDoc Documents page with the Add new document upload area highlighted

  1. Click Documents in the top menu.
  2. Click Add new document to browse for a file, or drop the file on it.
  3. When the upload finishes, the document opens in the editor.

Files can have many pages - every page is shown in the editor.

How Do I Start From a Template?

BreezeDoc Templates page, Your templates tab, with Use template links under each template

  1. Click Templates in the top menu.
  2. On Your templates, click Use template under the template.
  3. BreezeDoc creates a new document from it and opens it in the editor, with the template's fields already in place.

Ready-made templates are on the Library tab - see Template Library. To make your own, see Creating and Using Templates.

Who Is Signing the Document?

After an upload, the editor asks "Who is signing this document?":

  • Only me, right now - sign and export the document yourself.
  • Multiple parties - add fields and send the document for other people to sign, which can include you.

With Multiple parties, each signer is a party in the Parties panel. Click Add new party for each extra signer. You enter their names and email addresses when you send. See How Multi-Party Signing and Signing Order Work.

How Do I Add Fields?

  1. Select the party in the Parties panel.
  2. Drag a field - Signature, Text, Email, Checkbox, Date, Initials, or Dropdown - from the Fields panel onto the page.
  3. Click the field to set options such as Required.

Every field type, plus moving, resizing, and Autodetect Fields, is covered in How to Add Fields to a Document.

Naming and Saving Your Document

  • Name - the file name is used as the document name. To change it, click the name at the top of the editor, type the new name, and click OK.
  • Saving - there is no Save button: the editor saves each change automatically ("Saving..." appears while it works).
  • Finding it later - the document is listed on Documents. Choose Not sent in the filter to see documents you have not sent yet.

What Happens Next?

When the fields are in place, click Send to signers and choose Send via email or Generate links - see How to Send a Document for E-Signature in BreezeDoc. The document counts toward your monthly allowance when you send it.

Troubleshooting

My file does not upload

  • Check the file type: PDF, Word (.doc, .docx), Excel (.xls, .xlsx), JPG, or PNG.
  • Check the size: files must be 5 MB or smaller. Compress the file or split it, then try again.

I cannot find a Save button

  • There is none - changes save automatically. Wait until "Saving..." disappears before you close the page.

I cannot find my document

  • Open Documents, choose All or Not sent in the filter, and search for the name. Team documents are on the team's tab.

The send page says I reached my limit

  • Your plan's monthly sending allowance is used up. You can still create documents; see what is left under Settings → Plan ("Documents sent this month") or upgrade your plan.
