How to Track Document Activity and Download the Audit Log
See who viewed and signed a BreezeDoc document on its Activity page, download the activity log as a PDF, and find it at the end of every completed document.
Prerequisites
- Plan: All plans - the Free Plan, the Individual Plan, and the Agency Plan all include activity tracking.
- Document: A document that has been sent for signature.
- Access: You own the document, or you are on the team it belongs to.

What is Activity Tracking?
BreezeDoc records an event each time a recipient is sent a document, views it, and signs it. Each event keeps the date and time, the recipient, and the recipient's IP address and browser. You can:
- Check progress on the document's Activity page.
- Download the activity log as a PDF at any time.
- Keep a record: when the document is completed, the activity log is added to the end of the completed PDF.
What Events Are Tracked
- Sent - the signing email was sent to the recipient.
- Viewed - the recipient opened the document to sign it, or someone opened the document's view link.
- Signed - the recipient finished signing.
- Opened - the recipient opened the signing email. BreezeDoc stopped tracking email opens in late May 2026, so you only see this event on documents sent before then. Use Viewed to see whether a recipient has looked at the document.
Each event records:
- Date - the date and time, shown in your account's timezone
- Recipient - the recipient's email address (or name, or party number if no email was entered)
- IP address - the recipient's network address
- Browser - the browser and device information (user agent)
Note: Reminder emails and document expiration are not recorded as activity events. Reminders are covered in Which Emails Does BreezeDoc Send? Notifications and Reminders.
Viewing Activity
Step-by-Step: View Document Activity
- Log in to your BreezeDoc account and click Documents.
- Find the document and click Activity in its row. On a small screen, open the row's menu and choose Activity.
- The Activity page shows the document title and a summary: Signatures, Waiting (sent, not signed yet), Not sent, Total views, and Unique views.
- Below the summary, the events table lists each Event, Recipient, and Date, 10 events per page, newest first. Click Date to switch to oldest first.
- Click Metadata on a row to see that event's full IP address and browser information.
The Activity page also has Copy link, which copies the document's view link, and Download PDF.
Downloading the Activity Log
Step-by-Step: Download the Activity PDF
- Open the document's Activity page.
- Click Download PDF.
- The PDF downloads as
document-title-activity.pdf.
What the Activity PDF Contains
- The heading Activity and the document title
- Every event, oldest first, in three columns: Date, Event / Recipient, and Metadata (the IP address with its last part hidden, and the browser)
Activity Log in Completed Documents
When the last recipient signs, BreezeDoc creates the completed PDF and adds the activity log pages to the end of it. The document owner, each signer, and each CC recipient receive this completed PDF by email. The activity pages cannot be turned off.
Branding on the Activity Pages
- Free Plan and Individual Plan: the BreezeDoc logo appears at the bottom of the activity pages.
- Agency Plan: no BreezeDoc logo. If you uploaded a custom logo, it appears at the top. See Custom Branding.
IP Addresses and Browser Details
How IP Addresses Are Shown
- On the Activity page (the Metadata window): the full IP address, visible only to you and your team.
- In the activity PDF and in completed documents: the IP address is partly hidden, because these PDFs go to recipients and CCs.
- IPv4: the last part is replaced, for example
192.168.1.xxx - IPv6: only the first three groups are kept, for example
2001:db8:85a3:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx
- IPv4: the last part is replaced, for example
Browser Information
The browser details (user agent) show the browser and operating system the recipient used, for example Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_15_7) Chrome/120.0.0.0 - Chrome on a Mac. An IP address shows an approximate location only, and VPNs change it, so treat it as one piece of evidence rather than proof.
Troubleshooting
The log shows "Sent" but the recipient says they never got the email
- Sent means BreezeDoc sent the email, not that it arrived.
- Check the recipient's email address for typos, and ask them to check their spam or junk folder.
- For company email, ask their IT team whether the message was blocked.
I see no "Opened" events
- BreezeDoc no longer tracks email opens, so documents sent after late May 2026 never show Opened.
- Look for Viewed: it appears when the recipient opens the document.
The summary numbers look different from the events I see
- The events table shows 10 events per page. Use the page links below the table, or download the PDF, to see every event.
The activity pages are missing from my PDF
- They are added only when every recipient has signed. While the document is still waiting for signatures, download the activity log from the Activity page instead.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is activity tracking available on the Free Plan?
Yes. The Activity page, the activity PDF, and the activity pages in completed documents are included on every plan.
Can recipients see the activity log?
Recipients cannot open the Activity page - only you and your team can. They do receive the completed PDF, which ends with the activity log (with IP addresses partly hidden).
Are reminders shown in the activity log?
No. The log records Sent, Viewed, and Signed events (plus Opened on older documents). Reminders every three days are available on the Individual and Agency Plans.
Why does the PDF hide part of the IP address?
The activity PDF and completed documents are shared with recipients and CCs, so BreezeDoc hides the last part of each IP address there. You can see the full address on the Activity page under Metadata.
